KING KONG (1933 DAN 2005)

King kong digambarkan sebagai hewan langka dan primitif. Untuk meyakinkan penonton akan hal ini, dipilihlah Pulau Tengkorak yang letaknya di perairan Indonesia. Tujuannya agar tergambar bahwa hewan tersebut berasal dari tempat yang sangat jauh, dan tentu saja,primitif.Sempat juga tergambarkan dalam film kalau kapal laut yang membawa king kong bernama Kapal Soerabaja.

JUMANJI (1995)

Film yang dibintangi Robin Williams ini bercerita tentang petualangan ajaib yang dialami para tokohnya lewat perantara sebuah papan permainan. Dalam salah satu adegannya, Williams kembali ke dunia nyata dengan berpakaian compang- camping dan bertingkah layaknya orang sakit jiwa yang akan membuat keributan. Saat hendak ditangkap polisi, Kirsten Dunst berusaha meyakinkan kalau Robin Williams adalah pamannya yang berasal dari Indonesia. Well, rupanya penulis skenario film ini menganggap Indonesia adalah tempat orang-orang primitif yang senang membuat kerusuhan.

THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU (1996)

Film ini bercerita tentang ilmuwan sinting yang terobsesi menggabungkan manusia dan hewan menjadi spesies baru. Untuk menggambarkan keabnormalan si ilmuwan, dipilihlah lokasi ”primitif” di sebuah pulau terpencil di kawasan Indonesia timur. Setting dan kisah film ini sebenarnya tidak perlu ”diambil hati”kalau saja yang membuatnya bukan sutradara kawakan John Frankenheimer yang dikenal lewat Ronin,The Manchurian Candidate,dan sederet film berkualitas lainnya. Satu lagi, dalam versi novel yang ditulis H.G. Wells, kapal yang ada di film ini bernama Ipencacuanha. Di versi film, nama kapalnya berubah menjadi Ombak Penari yang diambil dari kata Wave Dancer.Padahal disesuaikan dengan grammar, seharusnya terjemahannya adalah Penari Ombak.

BATS (1999)

Lagi-lagi Indonesia ”dilibatkan” dalam sebuah eksperimen keblinger. Kelelawar-kelelawar yang dijadikan bahan percobaan oleh pemerintah dalam film ini berubah menjadi hewan yang beringas dan menyerang penduduk kota. Mau tahu dari mana asal kelelawar tersebut? Ya, Indonesia. Bahkan dua kelelawar yang jadi ”bintang”dalam film ini diambil langsung dari negara kita.

ANACONDA 2: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID (2004)

Sekuel Anaconda ini bercerita tentang serombongan ilmuwan yang melakukan ekspedisi mencari anggrek berdarah, yang dipercaya membuat awet muda.Namun, rombongan ekspedisi justru porak-poranda diserang anaconda ganas yang ternyata telah memakan anggrek tersebut. Untuk membuat adegan itu masuk akal, disebutkan lokasi anggrek berada di pedalaman Kalimantan.Ya, bahkan di era informasi ini sineas Hollywood masih menganggap Indonesia sebagai sarang flora dan fauna tak lazim. Bayangkan, lokasinya di Kalimantan. Tapi,hewan-hewan yang lalu lalang justru dari Amerika Selatan.Oh Tuhan, sejak kapan anaconda nongol di Kalimantan? Enggak logis banget kan?

Sarang Teroris, SLEEPER CELL (2005-2007)

Serial TV ini bercerita tentang Darwyn Al-Sayeed, seorang muslim Afrika-Amerika yang bekerja sebagai agen FBI. Tugas Darwyn adalah mengusut kasus terorisme yang dilakukan organisasi teroris pimpinan Faris Al-Farik. Diceritakan, dalam episode Target dan Scholar,Darwyn berurusan dengan tokoh mahasiswa Indonesia bernama Eddy Pangetsu (Jeff Mallare). Eddy digambarkan sebagai ahli biologi kimia yang direkrut Faris Al-Farik untuk membuat virus anthrax yang disebar di Amerika.

Menariknya, salah satu adegan menggambarkan Faris menuduh Eddy menyelundupkan virus tersebut ke Indonesia untuk dikirimkan ke pamannya, seorang gangster lokal.Oke, negara kita kini digambarkan cerdas, tapi gemar berperang. Ironisnya lagi, Sleeper Cell yang punya tagline ”Friends. Neighbours. Husbands. Terrorists” ini ternyata cukup mendapat perhatian di negara asalnya. Buktinya,tahun lalu serial ini dinominasikan Emmy Awards untuk kategori Outstanding Miniseries, serta Golden Globe untuk Best Miniseries.Untunglah, Sleeper Cell tidak menang.Lebih untung lagi, Jeff Mallare si pemeran Eddy Pangetsu juga tidak masuk nominasi.

Negara penuh konflik, THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY (1982)

Film yang diperankan oleh Mel Gibson dan Sigourney Weaver ini berkisah tentang seorang wartawan yang dikirim ke Jakarta untuk meliput masa-masa genting di tahun 1965-1966. Saat itu, Indonesia yang dipimpin oleh Presiden Soekarno sedang mengalami krisis politik dan ekonomi.Tak heran, situasi Jakarta digambarkan sangat kacau, lengkap dengan embel-embel penduduk yang merana karena kelaparan.

SMALLVILLE, MUSIM 2 (2003)

Whitney,pacar Lana,masuk militer dan dikirim ke wilayah yang sedang berkonflik.Di mana? Ya, di Aceh. Saat sedang berpatroli, kendaraan yang membawa Whitney dan peletonnya dibombardir, dihujani ledakan bertubi-tubi.Adegannya mirip kondisi perang di Irak.

Negara ”Selalu Bikin Kacau”, LETHAL WEAPON 4 (1998)

Dalam salah satu adegannya, Danny Glover memaki-maki kapal yang ditumpanginya bersama Mel Gibson. Dengan mimik khasnya dia berkata, ”Kapal bodoh ini dibuat oleh seseorang yang berasal dari Indonesia.” Wah….

SWEETEST THING (2002)

Si manis Cameron Diaz juga tidak mau ketinggalan ”menghina” Indonesia. Di salah satu adegan, Diaz yang kewalahan dengan ulah teman-temannya yang sering bikin repot, langsung nyerocos dengan santainya, ”Kalian ini bikin kacau saja seperti Indonesia!!”
